Telecommunications networks
Increasing digitalisation and the adoption of artificial intelligence are generating unprecedented demand for digital infrastructure such as data centres, telecommunications towers, ultra-broadband networks and satellites, which are crucial for Europe's competitiveness.
IDF1 has invested in various segments of the digital sector.
In 2022, it participated in the financing of a leading independent operator in ultra-broadband networks in Europe, contributing to the development of a nationwide network. This investment aims to improve access to remote data and services and reduce the digital divide, especially in less developed areas of the country.
In 2023, IDF1 extended its commitment by financing operators in the TLC tower and data center sector.
The towers represent fundamental infrastructures for the development of 5G connectivity and related innovative services. The loans supported two of the main European operators, in relation to both M&A transactions and expansion plans, promoting the spread of mobile services in urban, suburban and rural contexts, with positive impacts on the quality of services and economic development.
Data centers, strategic infrastructures to increase interconnectivity, allow greater use of artificial intelligence and to ensure digital sovereignty, have been the subject of investments aimed at creating a pan-European platform based in Paris, intended to respond to the growing demand for storage from hyperscalers such as cloud-providers. From an ESG point of view, the platform focuses on energy supplies from renewable sources and has ambitious net zero carbon targets.
