Distribution Networks

F2i entered the gas distribution sector in 2009, through the acquisition of Enel Rete Gas.

In the following years, the F2i team contributed to the growth of an operator that grew from 2 million users to 5 million users served, becoming the first national operator in terms of extension of the network managed. The growth in size took place through an effective strategy of acquiring other operators, the development of the managed networks and participation in tenders for the renewal of concessions. The virtuous path has contributed not only to the creation of a large national operator efficient in terms of scale and technological skills but also to the transformation of the ownership structure of an entire sector that has suffered from high levels of fragmentation. In April 2025, the company was sold to Italgas.

In the field of water services and water distribution, F2i has invested and participated in the growth of Iren Acqua, a company that manages integrated water services for 39 municipalities in the Genoa area and supplies water to about 750 thousand inhabitants. Since its initial commitment in 2010, F2i has collaborated with Iren, the majority shareholder of Iren Acqua, to develop a more efficient and integrated water operator, through the development of the network, the construction of new purification plants and investments to reduce water losses. In February 2025, F2i sold its stake to Gruppo Iren, handing the company over to a new phase of growth.
